Athletic Resume for College Recruiting: What to Include (Free Template)

TL;DR

  • Keep it to one page with the facts coaches need in seconds.
  • Include position, level, key stats, grades, contact details and one video link.
  • Show proof, not stories: numbers, achievements and your best clips.

What is a sports resume for youth players?

A sports resume, also called a player profile or athletic CV, is a one-page summary of who you are as an athlete and student. It helps a coach understand you in seconds: your sport and position, your level, what you have achieved and how to reach you. It supports your email and your highlight video.

What should a sports resume include?

The basics

  • Full name, graduation year and hometown
  • Sport and position (and secondary position)
  • Height, weight and dominant hand or foot, where relevant
  • Club, school team and coaches’ names

Contact details

  • Your email and phone number, and a parent’s contact if you are a minor
  • A link to your highlight video and, if available, full games

Performance

  • Key stats for your sport, for example goals and assists, points and rebounds, batting average, tackles, saves, kills and digs
  • Level and league you play in
  • Awards, captain roles and team results

Academics

  • GPA and any test scores
  • Intended major, if you know it
  • NCAA Eligibility Center status, if relevant

Character

  • Leadership, team roles, community work and growth
  • A short, honest line on what kind of teammate you are

How long should it be?

One page. Coaches scan quickly, so use short lines and bullet points. If a detail does not help a coach decide, leave it out.

Simple template you can copy

Name: First Last | Class of: 2028 | Hometown: City, Country
Sport and position: (for example) Midfield / Point guard / Pitcher
Height / weight: 175 cm / 68 kg
Club / school: Team name, league, level
Contact: email, phone (parent contact if under 18)
Video: link to highlight reel | link to full games

Season stats: 3 to 5 numbers that matter for your position

Achievements: awards, captaincy, team results

Academics: GPA, test scores, intended major

References: your club or school coach’s name and contact (with permission)

What mistakes should you avoid?

  • A long page full of small text.
  • Stats without context (say the level and number of games).
  • Missing contact details or a video link that needs a password.
  • Claims you cannot prove.
  • Out-of-date information.

How does the resume work with your video?

The resume is the summary and the video is the proof. Put the video link near the top, and make sure the reel matches your resume: same position, same number, same kit color. Read How to Create a Highlight Video That Gets You Recruited.
